Year 3 African Mask and Dance Workshop

Year 3 enjoyed an African Mask and Dance workshop. The children learnt about African art and how most African masks are thought to portray the faces of spirits and gods. They then had the opportunity to decorate their own Dan mask which had been hand sculpted from Albesia wood, which was grown in community smallholdings in Western Africa. The second part of the workshop involved the children listening to and interpreting African Music focussing on its beat and rhythm. Each class worked together to learn and perform a culturally elaborate and enriching dance. Year 3 enjoyed learning from Miss Jeffs who talked to us and showed us photos from her time in various tribal communities across Africa.
