Year 6 pupils learn new Survivor Skills

Our topic, in year 6 this half term, is Survivor. The children will be learning about different UK localities, the flora, fauna and animals that live there and how they are adapted to their environment.  In order to get them to begin thinking about the wildlife in different areas, we took them to Wimbledon Common for the day and told them that they had to survive!  They worked in groups to investigate the local area and find plants and animals that would sustain them if they were lost in the wilderness. The children made shelters, gathered materials and even made pretend tools with which they could ‘hunt’ or fish.  They had a great time and would definitely survive, for a little while at least, if they were lost in the wild!
